GRWM TREND

The most important part of the day is getting ready. My grandmother and mother often say that we should make conscious efforts to get ready because we need to look presentable to the world. I wholeheartedly agree with them.

Recently, I have seen so many teens and young adults do a "get ready with me to school or college" on Instagram reels. The trend is frustrating to watch. The entire Asian subcontinent is currently facing the wrath of Satan. It is burning. Why do they always wear full-sleeved clothes or hoodies? The day I stopped wearing hoodies was the day I started healing. Literally!

There was a time, in senior secondary school, when I used to collect H&M hoodies. The sharp contrast between outdoor and indoor climates luckily never got me sick. But the material of those hoodies used to generate so much heat in my body that I would end up getting boils and rashes.

Also, what's with Indian men's fashion? Maybe I am exposed to just one or two mainstream influencers who keep wearing black shirts with chinos and pair the fit with a pearl necklace. Then there is another one who gets ready in the middle of the street, from wearing just boxers to being in a head-to-toe leather fit. I am stunned.

As far as women's fashion is concerned, there are many big players out there. The ones that are considered fashion gurus are producing generic content. I need to be inspired, like completely awestruck by a genius. Pinterest time? Maybe.

I struggle with my body image almost every day. Sometimes I look at myself in the mirror, and these weird thoughts come into my head telling me not to wear certain things, no matter how I look in them. This is why getting ready is so difficult. I am fighting a war in my head, thinking about what people will think of me if I wear something new or different. In the end, I am suffering because I don't step outside my comfort zone.

Tank tops and flared pants are so in right now. We had bought the 1970s back. I have a good enough collection of flared pants. I have a lot of baggy t-shirts, which I want to do away with. They make me look large. HUGE! I think slim-fit shirts and tank or crop tops are good for my body. I'd pair them with, like, my pant collection or some nice skirts. I don't remember the last time I purchased a dress. In recent times, all my money has been spent on purchasing sarees for college events.

What I have learned so far in my short life of 21 years and with certain exposure to the fashion industry is that you wear clothes that are comfortable, suitable for the climate, and fit your body type. I haven't really cracked the code, but I am trying my sincere best. If you want to help me, please do so in the comment section or email me. I need guidance.

Honestly, the level at which Indian street fashion is evolving is nowhere near the international standard. Cool, we might be too busy soul-searching for our own "thing" that best describes us. But we need to move quickly with the times!

If I have a Eureka moment in this journey with regards to fashion, I will definitely share my secrets here, I promise.

Huzzah!
